Development of Motion-Model Ultrasound Localization Microscopy to Support Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Therapy Monitoring in Patients

Our long-standing cooperation with the Institute for Experimental Molecular Imaging at the RWTH University Aachen is continued in this DFG-funded project "Development of Motion-Model Ultrasound Localization Microscopy to Support Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Therapy Monitoring in Patients". In Ultrasound Localization Microscopy (ULM), individual microbubbles are detected and tracked in ultrasound sequences so that imaging of the microvasculature is possible with a resolution that is significantly better than that of conventional US procedures. In addition to morphological images, functional parameters can also be determined.

The aim of this project is to transfer the developed methods of ULM to clinical application and to 3D images in order to use them for the characterization of tumors, the monitoring of therapies and for the improvement of therapies. For this purpose, the cooperation will be extended to the Clinic for Gynaecology and Obstetrics at the RWTH University Aachen.
