Research

The Chair for Medical Engineering is active in research and education in medical image acquisition and processing. The focus is on ultrasound-based imaging and therapy procedures. Research topics are, for example, photoacoustic imaging, high-resolution imaging of microvasculature by tracking individual contrast agent particles, as well as tomographic ultrasound reconstruction and ultrasound-based therapy and diagnosis using magnetic nanoparticles.

The team participates in several research projects, e.g. in the SAMBA-PATI project therapeutic and imaging ultrasound methods are combined with the novel imaging modality Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI). The CVent Project focuses on the development of a photoacoustic imaging system for the diagnosis of atherosclerotic plaques.

Teaching

The lectures of the chair for medical engineering cover statistical signal processing and medical imaging. This is a large portion of the study focus medical engineering. Several Studien-, Diplom-, Bachelor- and Master theses are offered within the research areas.
